My friend has often told me of Macau, with its glitzy casinos, and over the top apparel wearers. But there were a few details I should have minded a little better than just what hotel to stay in. First off, Macau is not part of Hong Kong. It is a former Portuguese protectorate and is now independent. The country has it's own currency and immigration. There are only three ways to enter the country: ferry, bus over a bridge just opened in 2019, and a helicopter. You cannot just hop in a taxi and be there in 30 minutes, as I thought could be done.
Macau, once you are there, is cool in a strange way. A gambling mecca, the city has it's own Venitian Hotel, which is a copy of the one in Las Vegas. So staying here, I am in a copy of a copy of the real thing. Mind-blowing, and also kind of fun.
